Tales from the river bank

Many years ago I was a motoring correspondent. It was much easier, and a
lot more fun, to write about Porsches rather than Peugeots, or Ferraris
than Fiats...

These are all excellent images, but I think I like the fourth of these photos the best - something about the contrast of the lighter background, and the appearance of the eyes. Well done.
I admire your love affair with these dragon flies!
Each version is amazing, impressive.
You did it again with stunning Dragon pictures.
Yes, the 4th pic shows lateral view is the best.
Congratulation!
wow dragonfly overload man. can we get some other sl wildlife in your next post please lol
they seem to be doing some acrobatic stunts... especially when their wings are pointing down... my fave is the third photo, especially with one of the dragonfly's legs stretched out :)
Wow! What fantastic shots. Very cool, beautiful, creature.
Happy WW :)
What stunning shots!!!
I love dragonflies. These are awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Bobbie,
Thanks! It is by far the commonest dragonfly in my home garden and the one that is most obliging. So, I get a lot of opportunity to experiment with it. This series presents a glimpse of that.
Thanks, Indrani! Do I remember right that you promised a dragonfly shot on a WW?
Hi Sandy,
I love playing around in different lighting situations, backgrounds, angles, camera settings and postures with this.
Hi Tabib,
Thanks! I am glad you liked them. I got to know my Lumix thanks to this insect and I am very fond of it!
Hi mboi
Sorry about the overload of dragonflies, mate! I am afraid, this trend will continue as there’s a lot more dragons awaiting in the pipeline!
Hi Lareine,
This Elusive Adjutant is a real show off. I never tire of photographing this one.
Hi Allison,
Thanks! I am glad you liked them. Have a great day!
Hi Mar,
Thanks for dropping by. I am pleased to hear from you.
Hi Kimberly,
Thanks! Good to hear from you. Glad to know that you too love dragonflies.
They have such delicate wings. I am in awe of the beautiful pink dragonfly from last week!
These are so amazing. I love dragonflies. Great job. Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Beautiful as always. I have to say I love the crazy hot pink one below the best! Our hawks grab dragonflies in mid-flight during migration. So I was thinking how snacky these look. Or not. :)
How in the world do they keep their eyes so shiny? And how in the world do you catpure this in your photography??
I am just getting started with my Lumix (thanks for the rec) and I love it so far. Need to get a macro lens.....
I know it's Wordless Wednesday but I'll just say one word for those amazing photos - WOW!
Those are cool...they freak me out but they are cool:) Happy WW and thanks for stopping by.
Hi Daisy,
Daisy seems to be watching my dragonflies! I am happy you liked the pink one. I too like gaudy dragons.
Hi Jan,
Thank you! Nice to know that you love dragons. Good to have you back.
Hi Bev,
Glad you too like the pink one. Yes it quite a striking dragonfly. I had a male of this visiting my home garden few weeks ago but it didn’t have full colours as the one shown below.
Dragons surely must taste rather good for birds. For Hawks it must be like McDragon meal…..on McFlight!
Hi Margerie,
Your first question is partly answered in http://www.geocities.com/brisbane_insects/DragonflyHead.htm
I have shared a few dragon hunting techniques in comments in some of my past posts. No promises but I will try to do a post on it when I have time.
Glad you bought a Lumix after my recommendation! My advice no.2 for you is to first get familiar with your camera for at least 6 months before thinking of buying additional gear.
Hi Chrisss,
Thanks a lot and great to have you back! I am pleased you liked my pics. As mentioned above, this dragonfly is quite a common one in my yard, so I get a lot of practice photographing it.
Hi Lori,
Thanks! I know they freak you out, which is why I love to have you dropping by! *Dr. Evil's laughter*
Magnificent!
What amazingly crisp shots. Great capture.
Fantastic photos.
Thanks, Jams, Robin & OC!
Have a super day!
It must be hot in Sri Lanka at this time of year. In the last two posts, a lot of the dragonflies are in the obelisk position. Yet another great series of odonate photos.
>"I am afraid, this trend will continue as there’s a lot more dragons awaiting in the pipeline!"
Yay!
Too, too funny, I love the McDragon meal comment. I'm going to use it on my blog. I'll credit you, of course!!! :0) Bev.
incredible shots!
Hi Doug,
Those photograph in obelisk position were shot at the hottest time of the day as you have guess correctly.
I have a few good dragonfly shots from my last 18-day photography tour.
Hi again Bev,
Glad you liked my comment! Look forward to seeing it in your blog!
Thanks goodbear!
Good to hear from you.
What wonderfu color and detail you captured onthat mystical flying insect.
Fantastic series of shots! Your compositions are elegant!
Hi Larry and Lynda,
Thanks a lot! This dragofly is a real poser. So, I get a lot of time to play around with my compositions and settings.

You have magnificant photographs!! I'll be back for more visits!! My vote..Keep those dragon photos coming!! They're amazing!
Hi Spookydragonfly,
