This is quite an interesting series of photos. In Hawaii, we have a similar spider (Argiope appensa), but I have never seen one trap and overcome such a large insect. Thanks for sharing.

Fabulous slide show. I do feel sorry for the dragonfly (a particularly beautiful one too!) since we have loads of the garden spiders here. True confessions, I release dragonflies if I see them caught in a web. Tis true.
On a side note, My sister was on the phone when I was looking at your slide show and she started screaming who is singing that song! I explained I was on your site and have sent her the link. Turns out she has been trying to figure out who the artist is for months.

As you know the spiders can only eat their food in liquid form. Although this ‘McDragon meal’ appears big, it is wrapped in considerable amount wasteful packaging. So it will eat again sooner than that.

I've scrolled up and down your posts. Great macro photos. I've been working on those myself. It is really interesting to see the bugs up close. There is so much more to them than you usually see before they fly, crawl or jump away.

I was photographing dragonflies last Saturday morning in my 'local patch' and after my battery was nearly exhausted, I called my local taxi bloke to come and pick me up. It was just after that call that I stumbled the 'hunt'. So, I went on a shooting rampage until the battery died down completely, which happened in about 5 minutes.
