This is quite an interesting series of photos. In Hawaii, we have a similar spider (Argiope appensa), but I have never seen one trap and overcome such a large insect. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful and terrible. The awesome beauty and heartless cruelty (well from my perspective and probably the dragonfly's) of nature. Very cool presentation. Not only didn't you use words, you told a story.
He (or she) looks like a cartoon! Good capture! Thanks for stopping by! BTW, Gus and I played Scrabble this weekend and I thought of you. No, I'm not ready to challenge you yet. I'm a bit rusty right now, but I'm working on it! Just in case I ever get to take a trip to Sri Lanka!
Fabulous slide show. I do feel sorry for the dragonfly (a particularly beautiful one too!) since we have loads of the garden spiders here. True confessions, I release dragonflies if I see them caught in a web. Tis true.
On a side note, My sister was on the phone when I was looking at your slide show and she started screaming who is singing that song! I explained I was on your site and have sent her the link. Turns out she has been trying to figure out who the artist is for months.
Hi For The People, Thank you! Glad you liked the slideshow and the header. You too have a great day!
Hi Modesto, Thanks! I am glad you liked it.
Hi Carver, Thanks! Pleased to hear it.
Hi Denise, Thanks a lot! Have a good day!
Hi Vixen, Thanks! Nice to hear your comments.
Hi Will, As you know the spiders can only eat their food in liquid form. Although this ‘McDragon meal’ appears big, it is wrapped in considerable amount wasteful packaging. So it will eat again sooner than that.
Hi Susan, Thanks! Have a good day!
Hi Carrie, Yes, dragonflies are cool insects to see and photograph. Thanks for your comments.
Hi Moon Rani, Thank you very much! I love your name!!
Hi Margerie, You have great eyes! It fact I was waiting like a spider myself until a keen observer comments on it! The wordless-ness of the day prevented me from expressing it myself. This will be discussed in detail with other supporting pics in a post to come.

Nice to know that you played a game of scrabble with Gus and thought about me. I can sort of guess who won it! A game of Scrabble in the evening with my visitors is something that I enjoy a lot. I am sure you will be a formidable opponent.
Hi Maisie, Thanks! I am pleased that the kids enjoyed it too! I love to hear their expressions when they see things like this.
Hi Bevson, Thanks a lot! And thanks for the confession. I know that there are some people who do intervene. I will intervene if the predator is a domesticated one/ pest hunting a wild animal.
Thanks for sharing that interesting incident that happened with your sister. I laughed out loud reading that she went screaming after hearing the songs!! James Blunt can send a lot of people screaming one way or the other! I am glad she now knows who the mystery singer is!
Hi Mimi, Hehe...which explains the accident! Thanks for commenting.
I've scrolled up and down your posts. Great macro photos. I've been working on those myself. It is really interesting to see the bugs up close. There is so much more to them than you usually see before they fly, crawl or jump away.
Hi Laura, I am pleased to hear your comments. Macro opens up a whole new dimension of your bugs we see. I am still very much an amateur compared to many gifted photographers around.
Circle of life.... amazing story in photos. Just how many hours did it take you to shoot this "movie"? Beautiful photos. I feel sad for the dragonfly though.

Hi Sara, Thanks! Working with little critters is fun and easier once you learn how to 'hunt' them.
Hi The Lazy reader, I don't believe you are a lazy reader! Pleased to hear your comments.
Hi Tina, Thank you! I was photographing dragonflies last Saturday morning in my 'local patch' and after my battery was nearly exhausted, I called my local taxi bloke to come and pick me up. It was just after that call that I stumbled the 'hunt'. So, I went on a shooting rampage until the battery died down completely, which happened in about 5 minutes.

Hi Kimberly,
Thanks a lot! Say hello to the baby!
Hi Angie,
Very much so! This dragonfly is very common in my patch but this spider is not. So, eventually, the mother nature has her final say.
