These are astounding. God bless.

Excellent slideshow! Poor dragonfly!

This is quite an interesting series of photos. In Hawaii, we have a similar spider (Argiope appensa), but I have never seen one trap and overcome such a large insect. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Pat,
Thanks! Aren't you wordless today?

Hi Java,
Thanks mate!

Hi Sandy,
Thanks! Have a great day!

Hi Ocean,
Indeed! Thanks for taking the trouble to drop by during your holiday!

Hi dcr,
Being an odonatoholic, I too felt the same!

Hi Bobie,
Thanks! Had a look that Argiope appensa. I have a VERY similar one in my garden. I too was surprised at the size of its McDragon meal!

Hi Clarence,
Thanks for you two! Glad you like them.

Hi Rizza,
Thanks! Have a super day!

The food chain in action. I almost felt bad for the 'meal.' Awesome shots!

Poor dragonfly. Lucky spider though, and GREAT captures - those photos are sharp as a tack!

Happy Wednesday!

Wonderful and terrible. The awesome beauty and heartless cruelty (well from my perspective and probably the dragonfly's) of nature. Very cool presentation. Not only didn't you use words, you told a story.

Anonymous said...

Beautiful pictures! I felt sorry for the dragonfly, but that's nature. Thanks for stopping by earlier. All the best,

Anonymous said...

That was phenomenal! Love your shots!

Hi Kimberly,
Thanks a lot! Say hello to the baby!

Hi Angie,
Very much so! This dragonfly is very common in my patch but this spider is not. So, eventually, the mother nature has her final say.

Hi Steffi,
Thanks! Glad to hear that you liked the idea and will try it next time.

Hi Mailah,
Thanks! I had a friend in the school who had your name as a nick name. It means hairy over here!

Hi Milet,
Pleased to hear it! Have a good day!

Hi Robin,
Thanks! I was lucky that I was at the right place at the right time and the light worked in favour of me.

Hi Shiela,
The spider is a tough Shiela!
Lovely to hear your comments!

Hi Lareine,
Thanks! The spider was a tiny thing compared to the dragonfly and it was amazing to see the hunt.

Hi Indrani,
It's about a spider and dragonfly is thrown in for entertainment...!

Hi Jenny,
Thank you!

Hi Katya,
It is good if they are safe there. There is danger looming in every corner for them here!

Hi Sue,
Thanks! Glad to hear from you.

Hi Lesley,
Thanks for being honest! Have a great day!

Hi Raven,
Eventually the hunter become the hunted! Pleased to hear your comments.

Hi April,
It was a bit sad to see it, but as you said it is nature in action.

Hi Fernweh,
Thanks a lot! Pleased to hear your comments!

amazing and shockingly graceful...

the second closeup of the spider, the underside (?) looks like a man in a tall hat

Great blog! I am telling my fellow birdaholics!

He (or she) looks like a cartoon! Good capture! Thanks for stopping by! BTW, Gus and I played Scrabble this weekend and I thought of you. No, I'm not ready to challenge you yet. I'm a bit rusty right now, but I'm working on it! Just in case I ever get to take a trip to Sri Lanka!

Maisie said...

I showed this slide show to my kids and they thought it was neat, too.

Fabulous slide show. I do feel sorry for the dragonfly (a particularly beautiful one too!) since we have loads of the garden spiders here. True confessions, I release dragonflies if I see them caught in a web. Tis true.

On a side note, My sister was on the phone when I was looking at your slide show and she started screaming who is singing that song! I explained I was on your site and have sent her the link. Turns out she has been trying to figure out who the artist is for months.

Hi For The People,
Thank you! Glad you liked the slideshow and the header. You too have a great day!

Hi Modesto,
Thanks! I am glad you liked it.

Hi Carver,
Thanks! Pleased to hear it.

Hi Denise,
Thanks a lot! Have a good day!

Hi Vixen,
Thanks! Nice to hear your comments.

Hi Will,
As you know the spiders can only eat their food in liquid form. Although this ‘McDragon meal’ appears big, it is wrapped in considerable amount wasteful packaging. So it will eat again sooner than that.

Hi Susan,
Thanks! Have a good day!

Hi Carrie,
Yes, dragonflies are cool insects to see and photograph. Thanks for your comments.

Hi Moon Rani,
Thank you very much! I love your name!!

Hi Margerie,
You have great eyes! It fact I was waiting like a spider myself until a keen observer comments on it! The wordless-ness of the day prevented me from expressing it myself. This will be discussed in detail with other supporting pics in a post to come.

Hi Blue Ginger,
Thanks! I like your name.

Hi Jams,
Thanks for your comments. Have good day!

Hi Raivyn,
Thank you! I am happy you liked them.

Hi Lin,
Thanks a lot! Pleased to hear it from you as always!

Hi C.A
Thanks! Have a good day!

Hi Kathie,
The unfortunate one is a ‘he’. Probably paying the price after going after a ‘she’!

Nice to know that you played a game of scrabble with Gus and thought about me. I can sort of guess who won it! A game of Scrabble in the evening with my visitors is something that I enjoy a lot. I am sure you will be a formidable opponent.

Hi Maisie,
Thanks! I am pleased that the kids enjoyed it too! I love to hear their expressions when they see things like this.

Hi Bevson,
Thanks a lot! And thanks for the confession. I know that there are some people who do intervene. I will intervene if the predator is a domesticated one/ pest hunting a wild animal.

If it is just wild animals, I will watch it agog with ‘diffused responsibility’

Thanks for sharing that interesting incident that happened with your sister. I laughed out loud reading that she went screaming after hearing the songs!! James Blunt can send a lot of people screaming one way or the other! I am glad she now knows who the mystery singer is!

Hi Mimi,
Hehe...which explains the accident! Thanks for commenting.

Hi dzoi,
Thanks! Have a great day!

I've scrolled up and down your posts. Great macro photos. I've been working on those myself. It is really interesting to see the bugs up close. There is so much more to them than you usually see before they fly, crawl or jump away.

Amila Salgado said...

Hi Laura,
I am pleased to hear your comments. Macro opens up a whole new dimension of your bugs we see. I am still very much an amateur compared to many gifted photographers around.

Hi Forgetfulone,
Glad you remembered drop by!
I am pleased to hear your comments!

Hi OC,
Thanks! Pleased to hear your comments.

Hi Ettey,
Thank you very much. I am very happy to hear that.

Hi Sara,
Thanks! Working with little critters is fun and easier once you learn how to 'hunt' them.

Hi The Lazy reader,
I don't believe you are a lazy reader! Pleased to hear your comments.

Hi Tina,
Thank you!
I was photographing dragonflies last Saturday morning in my 'local patch' and after my battery was nearly exhausted, I called my local taxi bloke to come and pick me up. It was just after that call that I stumbled the 'hunt'. So, I went on a shooting rampage until the battery died down completely, which happened in about 5 minutes.
