Silly Stuff

Have you got what it takes to survive on a deserted island, if you are marooned there for five years? Name ten four non-electronic/non-foodie thingies you would like to have with you, before you find yourself in such a situation.
I would settle for a Rambo knife, a waterproof matchbox, my binoculars, and a copy of The Song of the Dodo (preferably in hardcover).

Oooh, Amila, I do like your new header, very smart.

I'd take a drum kit, an iPod, my laptop and my mobile, so I could make a call and get rescued once I got bored.

That's a funny commercial. I love/hate funny commercials because I know they're really just trying to sell me something.

I guess I'd take a good knife, binoculars (assuming I can use them to start fires instead of a separate hand lens), a quantity of strong synthetic cording, a thick waterproof journal with a built-in pencil (to keep from counting as two items--I'll need a book deal when I get back to make up for those years of lost income)

Nice new header - that mutant bird is now gone.
Thanks for Courier commercial. ;)

1)Hard cover version of "The Moor's Last Sigh"

2)Portable toilet

(the kind people take when they go camping - there really is a limit to how close I want to get to nature)

3)A girlie diary (they come with their own pencils)

4)A Swiss army knife

:)

Hi RD,
You mean you'd leave out your L'Oreal mens' moisturiser? Geez!

I did the header yesterday, and added some final touches today. Photoshop is such a powerful software!

Hi SC,
You're darn clever to opt for that waterproof journal with a built-in pencil!

Yes, you'd need a book deal.

I'd scout the shore to see if I can find any pencil washed ashore, and use space available in my 700-plus paged book to jot down notes (I'd cover my book using polythene washed ashore to waterproof it, when not in use). If I fail to find a pencil, I would try to make a natural ink from leaf extracts, tanins and minerals. And I'd write using a feather stylus, obviously.

Hi Tabib,
Thanks. That mutant bird had a two year stay, and it had to go, for now.

Hi Rogelio,
I wouldn't mind getting marooned on a deserted island with you.
Others, please visit his blog before jumping to hasty conclusions.

Hi Queen from Another Planet,
I should get hold of that book. If that is your first choice, it should be good.

Your pick no. 2 created some funny mental images, in cartoon style

Hi Ki,
Thank you!
Yep, I have used my Diya Na leaf macro as the background.

Those are good choices!
Yala and Bundala are getting some much needed rain right now. The drought is over.

I must be boring but i feel like crying if I even imagine getting marooned in an island. I think i am not cut out for that kind of adventure...

How are the birds with the rains? I think your letter had caused a torrential downpour here and in india

Hi Santhoshi,
I think we all would cry at some point if we get marooned like that. Even Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) did, in that film.

I am just back from a short trip to Udawalawe, Yala and Bundala National Parks. Birding was good, and I shall share some pictures in due course.
